Helping Suffering Families

Rose’s Story

In the wake of Rose’s passing, her father has been inspired to turn his grief into action by helping other suffering families honor their lost loved ones. Understanding the deep pain that comes with loss, he has dedicated himself to assisting families in obtaining meaningful memorials that serve as lasting tributes to those they have lost. Through this mission, Rose’s spirit continues to shine, bringing comfort and remembrance to others in their times of sorrow. By creating spaces of love and reflection, he ensures that no family has to endure their grief alone and that every loved one’s story is honored and remembered.

Rosenda Elizabeth Smiley, known as Rose, was miraculously born on December 5, 2009. Her light was stolen by a drunk driver on May 25, 2024. As tragic and horrific as her ending is, those who love and cherish her deeply choose to focus on the 5,285 days we were blessed to have her on this earth. Rose traveled the world, loved to laugh, and enjoyed having fun. She believed in fairness and justice for both animals and people. Rose had plans—lots of plans. She knew which college she wanted to attend, where she wanted to travel, and the experiences she wanted to have. Her laugh was contagious, and her smile was like sunshine. Rose was a cuddle bug and affectionate with those she loved. She had opinions and thoughts on things most 14-year-olds do not, with wisdom beyond her years. She is survived by her mother, father, brother,  stepparents, bonus siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. Rose is missed beyond words and loved beyond measure, forever in our hearts.

Rosenda Smiley was more than just a daughter, sister, and friend—she was a force of nature, a radiant light whose warmth and energy touched the lives of everyone fortunate enough to know her. Tragically taken from us last year by a drunk driver, Rose's absence is felt deeply in the Mountain Community and beyond. Yet, even in loss, we remain committed to honoring her memory, ensuring that her spirit continues to inspire those who knew and loved her.

Anyone who met Rose knew how truly special she was. The word 'unique' is often used lightly, but in Rose’s case, it was the truest reflection of her soul. She was vibrant, vivacious, and full of life—her smile had the power to melt hearts and brighten even the darkest days. Her laughter was infectious, her wit unmatched, and her kindness boundless. Whether through her adventurous spirit or her unwavering love for those around her, Rose made an indelible impact on everyone she encountered.

To truly understand the depth of Rose’s spirit, one need only listen to those who knew her best. Before the press conference at the memorial site where she was taken from us, friends and family were asked to describe Rose in three words. The overwhelming response painted a picture of someone who was funny, loving, intelligent, beautiful, stubborn, and courageous. She was caring, compassionate, strong, and full of passion. The list of 54 words used to describe her reflects not just who she was, but the immeasurable impact she had on those around her. She was sweet, kind, bold, feisty, brave, witty, charismatic, generous, sassy, clever, and a world traveler—a young woman whose energy and zest for life knew no bounds.

Though Rose’s time with us was far too short, her memory lives on in the hearts of those who love her. We invite anyone whose life was touched by Rose to join us in creating a lasting legacy in her name—one that continues to reflect her incredible personality and unwavering spirit. Through this legacy, we strive to ensure that her kindness, boldness, and adventurous heart live on, inspiring future generations.
